  1. Cannot verify my account with Beta-8, I know my username/password are correct!
    2.  This is most likely due to the time and/or timezone on your device being incorrect. Due to the way Twitter now requires authentication it is very sensitive to timestamps on requests to their API being wrong by too much. Click the options icon on your device, small wrench icon, then click 'Date/Time' and on that screen change your timezone first, and then set your time.
  2. HELP! my location is showing and I don't want it to!, what do I do?
    3.  In ÜberTwitter uncheck all of the location options. Select 'options' from the ÜberTwitter menu, then use the menu again and select 'location'. This is the first page in the wizard that deals with location, uncheck these two options, then click 'next', uncheck those settings then click 'next' again, and uncheck that setting and then save. It is likely that ÜberTwitter updated your location field in your profile. You can select 'my profile' from the menu and clear/reset the location field, or, log into twitter.com with your PC browser and clear the location field under settings. Any tweets that your device has already retrieved will likely have the location 'cached'. If the tweet has a 'myloc.me' url at the end, delete these tweets to get rid of the location.
  3. Every time I go to view 'My Friends' ÜberTwitter tells me that this method requires authentication, what can I do?
    4.  Use your Twitter name and not your email address in the username field in ÜberTwitter options.
  4. I have a Storm and all of a sudden I can't get rid of the keyboard on the screen and its not acting right, what do I do?
    5.  For some reason your BlackBerry has put ÜberTwitter into a compatibility mode, you can fix this by doing the following:
    • Go to Options->Advanced Options->Applications (on newer devices go to Options->Applications)
    • Highlight ÜberTwitter (don't open)
    • Use the menu and select 'Disable Compatibility Mode'
    • Exit out of that, and if ÜberTwitter is currently running, open it, and select 'exit' from the timeline menu
    • Re-open ÜberTwitter, it should be resolved.
  5. I can retrieve my timeline but I can't send a tweet, when I select 'new tweet' nothing happens, what to do?
    6.  This is a permissions problem. On your device go to the options icon (small wrench) on older versions of the blackberry OS select advanced options, then applications, on the version 5.0 of the blackberry OS select applications, then select ÜberTwitter, edit permissions and set permissions to 'allow'. Once you do this, you must reboot the phone by removing and reinserting the battery.
  6. I click on the ÜberTwitter icon and nothing happens, what to do?
    7.  This is a permissions problem.   7. I click on the ÜberTwitter icon and get a cryptic 'java exception' message, what to do?
    8.  This is a permissions problem.   8. Every time I run ÜberTwitter it asks me for my username and password all over again, why can't it save these settings?
    9.  The next time after you have re-entered all of your information, select 'accounts' from the menu, then highlight your account and use the menu to make it the default.
  9. I downloaded ÜberTwitter via BlackBerry AppWorld and now I can't find the ÜberTwitter icon anywhere, I have to run it from AppWorld. How do I get it back?
    10.  This is a bug in BlackBerry AppWorld. Go to AppWorld and uninstall ÜberTwitter. Then follow the steps below, then re-install ÜberTwitter from AppWorld.
    • (1) Open App World
    • (2) Go to My World
    • (3a) For keyboard-based BB's -- Hold down the ALT key and press "RST"
    • (3b) For Storm -- Hold the num-lock ("!?123") button so it locks and then hit "34("
    • (4) Give it some time, but if your BB locks after issuing the cache clear, perform a battery pull reboot

  10. I just installed ÜberTwitter and when i enter an '@' when composing a tweet my friend picker doesn't pop up, how to fix?
    11.  Select 'options' from the menu, then select 'interface options' from the menu and make sure the 'friend picker' is enabled. Then select 'goto user' from the menu, and if there is no list of friends, then from there select 'refresh friends' from the menu.  Wait until your friends appear to exit that screen.
  11. How can I use multiple accounts with ÜberTwitter?
    12.  Select 'accounts' from the timeline menu. From the Accounts screen you can add a new account, delete an account, and switch accounts. Note that you must have already setup the account on twitter.com. The shortcut key 'a' brings up the Accounts screen, allowing you to quickly switch accounts.
  12. I don't have a dataplan but use wifi, what settings do I need to make ÜberTwitter work?
    13.  Change your network option in ÜberTwitter to 'direct tcp' and make sure the wifi option is checked.
  13. Which Twitter account should I follow to receive updates on new versions, etc.?
    14.  Follow @UberTwiter, yes there is only one 't' in that name. Unfortunately the Twitter interface wouldn't let us select a name with the string 'twitter' in it, can't really blame them.
  14. My battery is draining like crazy?
    15.  The biggest battery drain in the application is the use of the internal GPS. Try having ÜberTwitter NOT use the internal GPS by switching to the cell tower location mechanism.
    Another big battery drain is having the refresh rate anywhere below 5 or 10 minutes, again you can change this within ÜberTwitter options.
  15. The location function is about a mile off! Why is it inaccurate?
    16.  If you are not using the built-in GPS the location mechanism is solely based off of the cell tower that your phone is connected to. The lat/long and address are for the cell tower with the accuracy component based off of your signal strength. We have seen this get as accurate as around 700 meters, but not much closer.
  16. I installed, entered my Twitter credentials, and get the cryptic message 'Could not authenticate you.', what does this mean?
    17.  That means that either your username or password are incorrect, or you have recently changed your password or twitter name. Select options from the timeline menu, click next, and make sure your username and password are correct. If you have changed your username/password recently then you have run into a bug on twitter that twitter has not fixed yet. Take a look at this page:  http://status.twitter.com/post/212318608/researching-username-password-change-problems If this is the case, the only thing we can offer is to use your email address in the username field instead of your twitter screen name. You might also try your old password/username.  That may work for a few days, once it stops working, use your new password again.
  17. I'm on Verizon Wireless and it won't connect, I get a message that says 'Network Exception' or 'Unknown Error', how can I fix this?
    18.  Only a few Verizon Wireless customers have this problem. In ÜberTwitter, go to Options, then click 'next' to get to the screen that talks about Advanced network options. Select 'Direct TCP'. Save this and try to refresh the timeline.
  18. Do you support BIS-B as a connection method?
    19.  YES. Set your network option to 'Auto', this will try to use BIS-B first and fallback to a corporate server (BES) if you have one configured.
  19. How do I upload pictures already on my BlackBerry ?
    20.  There are two options. First, use the 'Take Picture' option within ÜberTwitter, this will open the camera, allow you to take a picture, and return you to the Tweet update screen with the picture attached. The second option is to open the camera, select view pictures from the menu, pick a picture, then from the menu select 'Send To ÜberTwitter'.
  20. Every time I try to attach or take a picture nothing gets attached to the tweet, what gives ?
    21.  This is likely due to your SD card being configured to be encrypted, change this setting and all should be good.
  21. I go to your site from my berry and still get the error "sorry you can only download ÜberTwitter directly from a BlackBerry browser". what gives? does this only work on Storms?
    22.  This issue is typically due to the 'Emulation Mode' of the BlackBerry browser being set to something other then 'BlackBerry'. In BlackBerry emulation mode our website can detect the Operating System of your BlackBerry device and automatically point you to the correct version of ÜberTwitter. Try the following to change the emulation mode back to BlackBerry. Open your blackberry browser, select options from the menu, and then set the 'Emulation Mode' to 'Blackberry'. Now go to http://www.ubertwitter.com/bb/download.php again. If this doesn't solve your issue, send us a note via the contact form and include your BlackBerry OS version and we'll send you a direct link to the download for the version of the OS running on your device.

  23. I keep getting asked to trust a server certificate, how do I get around this?
    24.  You can either trust the cert, or, select 'options' from the menu, then open the menu again and select 'advanced options', and in the text box, at the beginning, change https to http (remove the 's').
  24. What are the small icons under peoples avatars in the timeline?
    25.  The 'blue check mark' means the user has been verified by Twitter. The red 'map pin' means that the tweet has location information included with it. The 'chasing' white arrows mean that this is a retweet that has not been edited by the person retweeting it. See this link on Twitter on the process to get verified: http://twitter.com/help/verified
  25. The time on my tweets in the timeline is always either off by hours or it always says 'right now', what to do?
    26.  You need to change your timezone under the options icon on your blackberry (small wrench). Click it then select 'date/time' and set the timezone to the appropriate value for your location. After setting the timezone, you may likely need to reset the time to the correct value.
  26. My visual notifications are not working, neither the main icon or the mini-icon, how to fix it?
    27.  First, verify that the icon notification settings are turned on. From the ÜberTwitter menu go to options->Notifications and set the six notification options for the icon and mini-icon as desired. If that doesn't resolve it, then it is likely a permissions problem. Try the following sequence:
    • Go to the options icon on your blackberry (small wrench icon), options->Advanced Options->Applications->ÜberTwitter and set permission to 'allow'.
    • Remove and reinsert your battery in order to do  a full device reset.
  27. My BlackBerry sound/vibration/LED notifications are not working, how to fix it?
    28.  Select options from the timeline menu in ÜberTwitter.  Then use the menu again and select 'notifications'.  On that screen make sure the 'use blackberry notifications' is 'checked'. Then, you will need to edit the 3 custom sound profiles for regular tweets, @mentions, and DMs to do what you desire. On newer devices these can be found under the 'speaker' icon on your device's home screen. You then need to make sure the application has permissions to use the notifications.  Perform following sequence:
    • 1. Go to the options icon on your blackberry (small wrench icon), options->Advanced Options->Applications->ÜberTwitter and set permission to 'allow'.
    • 2. Remove and reinsert your battery in order to do  a full device reset.
  28. I want to be able to accept friend requests on ÜberTwitter so I never have to go back to the desktop, how can I do this?
    29.  Unfortunately Twitter does not allow third-party applications to accept/deny follow requests, you can only do it through the web site right now.  We are working with Twitter to bring this capability to their third-party API as soon as possible.   We would love to have this capability, as that is what ÜberTwitter is all about, not having to go back to your desktop.
  29. What if I want to use Direct TCP, I've heard this is better?
    30. For many carriers you can do this just by selecting 'Direct TCP' in the ÜberTwitter options screen. This is true for AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint. However, for other carriers you will need to configure additional settings within your BlackBerry options for this to work. For all of the below settings, on your BlackBerry device, go to Options--> Advanced Options--> TCP set the APN, user, and password fields according to your carrier. Note, check with your carrier to verify that you will not incur additional charges. We only recommend making these changes if your APN field is already blank.
